From ACL Hero to Promotion Architect: Incheon United Captain Lee Myung-joo Contract Renewal

2025-12-28

🚨[Contract Renewal]
Incheon United has officially announced a contract extension with their captain and midfield general, Lee Myung-joo.
⚽️
The club confirmed on the 15th that an agreement was reached to keep the veteran, who has been the heartbeat of the squad since joining in 2022, for the upcoming K-League 1 campaign.
⚽️
This renewal comes at a pinnacle moment for the club. Incheon dominated the 2025 Hana Bank K-League 2, finishing at the top of the table with 78 points (23W-9D-7L), six points clear of rivals Suwon Samsung. Along with Lee’s extension, the club recently secured the continuity of manager Yoon Jung-hwan, who led the team to promotion in his debut season.

A Legend’s Journey with Incheon
Lee Myung-joo’s pedigree is undeniable. A product of the prestigious Pohang Steelers youth system, he won the K-League Rookie of the Year in 2012 and established himself as one of Asia’s top midfielders with Al Ain (UAE) and FC Seoul.
⚽️
Since arriving at the Sungui Arena in 2022, Lee has made 123 appearances, recording 8 goals and 10 assists. He was the architect behind Incheon’s historic first-ever AFC Champions League (ACL) qualification in 2023. Even when the club faced relegation to K-League 2 in 2025, Lee remained loyal, playing 34 matches (2 goals, 3 assists) and earning a spot in the K-League 2 Best XI.
⚽️
“Incheon is my longest-serving home”
Expressing his loyalty, Lee stated:
“Incheon is the team I have stayed with the longest in my professional career. I am happy to continue this journey. Now that we are back in K-League 1, I will devote myself to reaching even higher goals.”
⚽️
He also shared a warm message for the fans: “I hope all our supporters have a wonderful end to the year. Please continue to stand by us in 2026.”
Lee is set to join the team’s winter training camp in January to begin preparations for the top-flight challenge.
