Shock Move: Jeonbuk Legend Hong Jeong-ho Joins Suwon Samsung After Personal Call from Lee Jung-hyo

🚨[On the verge of Official]
⚽️According to transfer market sources on the 26th, Hong Jeong-ho’s next destination has been decided as Suwon Samsung Bluewings. An official stated, “Hong’s move to Suwon is confirmed. The contract is for two years, and the official signing and medical tests will be completed within this year.”

⚽️This is a truly shocking transfer. Although Suwon is currently in the second division (K-League 2), they are a traditional powerhouse that once maintained a fierce rivalry with Jeonbuk Hyundai.

⚽️The End of an Era in Jeonju Hong Jeong-ho is a living legend for Jeonbuk, having joined the club in 2018 and spending eight seasons there. During his tenure, he lifted the K-League 1 trophy 5 times and the Korea Cup 3 times. He was named in the League’s Best XI four times, including a dominant 2021 season where he won the League MVP. He remains one of the most beloved players in Jeonbuk’s history.

⚽️Even in 2025, his legendary status was ongoing. Hong led Jeonbuk to a “Double” (League and Cup titles) and secured his spot in the 2025 K-League 1 Best XI. Playing 31 matches this season, he proved his undiminished quality and played a vital role in Jeonbuk’s resurgence.

⚽️Why the Split? Hong’s contract with Jeonbuk expires at the end of this year. While staying was his priority, two rounds of negotiations ended without an agreement. It is reported that Jeonbuk insisted on a significant salary cut and only a one-year short-term contract.

⚽️Lee Jung-hyo’s Vision for Suwon As negotiations with Jeonbuk stalled, Suwon’s new manager, Lee Jung-hyo, reached out. Upon hearing Hong might leave Jeonbuk, Lee personally called him to express his interest. Lee has long highly valued Hong’s abilities and sees him as an essential asset for Suwon’s promotion back to the top flight—especially as a veteran leader to fill the gap in experience within the squad.
